Citrus County includes a number of uninhabited and/or sparsely inhabited coastal islands. ![]() Citrus County adjoins Levy County, Marion County, Sumter County, Hernando County, and the Gulf of Mexico on the west. ![]() Today, there is only one large citrus grove in the county. ![]() The County was founded on June 2, 1887, and was named for the county's many citrus groves.
